Don't get me wrong...I love Ireland, I love the time we have spent here, I love Irish beer, I love Irish people, I love Irish pubs, love the scenery, love lots and lots of things about Ireland....but I don't...DON'T, DON'T love Irish weather!!!!!!!! This place is bloody wet. I'm beginning to grow fins and webbed feet. I know why the “welly” (better know as Wellington boots, or rain boots) is so damn popular here, and why every household has an area designated for wellies. Wellies should be the national shoe of Ireland, or a part of the Irish flag. They should have a football or hurling team named after the welly. “The Wellington Waterballers”, something like that.
Deep breathe, yoga position set, and “voila” I'm feeling better. Just had to get that off my chest..or should I say my gills.....oops, I said I was over it, and I am. So what if it rains...it makes the place green and lush, and Ireland just wouldn't be Ireland without the green!
We talked to some locals today and they have assured us that, although there is much precipitation in this beautiful country, this June was an exceptionally wet month, with lots of flooding throughout the whole of Ireland. I read in the paper today, that the United Kingdom has also had severe flooding, and torrential rains, so I can't complain too much....Mother Nature is just filled with lots of liquid right now. Maybe it's her way of “detoxing.” She just taken an exceptionally strong herbal-detox tea.
On a different note, our guests have left. Donna, Trevor and Zach (our nephew) have just left after being with us for a week. We were busy little bees. We typically woke around 9am, had a big breakfast, left around 10am and didn't get back until around 8pm! We went to see the Blarney Castle, and kissed the Blarney Stone. We also walked the Wishing steps with our eyes closed, thinking of our wish the whole time( that's how you're supposed to do it). We ate at a typical Irish pub, and drank good Irish beer, and cider. We went horseback riding in the mountains, and drove through the Ring of Kerry. One night, Donna and Trevor left for the evening, and Zach, Paul and I made crafts, homemade pizza, and watch a good movie. There was fun had by all.
Now Paul and I are getting ourselves ready for an offshore trip down to Spain or Portugal. We need to do a few things on the boat ( install a new water pump, stock the food pantry, and check the sail/rigging), then we are off. We are both ready for some sun and warm weather. We will be spending some time in the Mediterranean and two people couldn't be more excited!
See our Picassa sight for new pictures of Ireland.
We miss everyone. Hope all is well.
Cheers,
Christine and Paul
